RITUALS The Ritual of Jing – Review

rituals-ritual-of-jing-review

When the Ritual of Jing collection first came out, I immediately felt excited to check it out. The campaign footage is stunning and takes you to a tropical and relaxing place that makes you feel calm and peaceful. Exactly the feeling that this collection wants to give you.

In this article, I review the Ritual of Jing giftset. This set includes a candle, a mild body scrub, a body cream, and a foaming shower gel. I’ll give you my honest opinion on each of these products.

About Rituals – in short

Rituals’ slogan is “We are not here to sell you beauty, we are here to make you feel good”. In my opinion, Rituals lives up to this slogan very well.

Rituals is a Dutch brand that creates skincare products using as many natural ingredients as possible and for properties that nature can’t provide, or when it’s more environmentally friendly, they choose lab-made alternatives. So the products are not 100% natural.

The brand works hard to minimize its carbon footprint. They try to produce their products as sustainably as possible. 97% of their products are produced in the European Union and suppliers must work according to the Code of Conduct. This means no child labor, no racism, (sexual) intimidation, guaranteed salaries, and healthy and safe working conditions.

Besides that, Rituals supports the Better Cotton Initiative. An initiative that strives to the worldwide improvement of cotton productions, the environment, and the future of the industry.

The packaging

The gift box looks amazing, as you’d expect from Rituals. The bottom is dark green and the lid is off-white with a little structure. A very luxurious-looking gift box.

On the lid, the text “A life full of wonders is a wonderful life.” is printed in gold.

The products are being displayed in a paper foam mold that is 100% compostable.

This box includes:

  • Soothing body cream
  • Calming foam shower gel
  • Mild body scrub
  • Candle

The scent

It is difficult to describe a scent, but I’m going to try anyway. I think the scent is very similar to the Ritual of Dao collection, although the Jing collection smells more subtle. It reminds me of a delightful shower in a secluded wooden cabin in a tropical, green setting. It is a ‘green’ scent that feels subtle and calming.

The products contain holy lotus and jujube, which is a kind of red or Chinese date. According to old Chinese cultures, jujube should have a calming effect.

Personally, I love this scent because I don’t like very sweet, fresh, or intense perfumes. This one is light, natural, and subtle. Love it!

The scent of the Jing collection is also approved by my boyfriend. He thinks this collection suits me well!

Ritual of Jing Relax – Soothing body cream

Let’s start off with the body cream. This gift box includes a tube, but the bigger one is prepacked in a round plastic jar with a wooden screw cap.

Personally, I like the tube because it is handy and more hygienic.

The cream is bright white and at first glance looks very rich (so may be difficult to smear or sticky?) but smears very well and doesn’t leave a sticky layer. But do wait a couple of minutes before you put on your pants, otherwise, it won’t go on very easily.

We already talked about the scent. Very natural, calming, and subtle.

Tip! At the bottom of this article, you’ll find a complete list of ingredients for each product.

Ritual of Jing Relax – Calming Foaming shower gel

The foaming shower gels might be my favorite Rituals product. They achieve to give me a relaxing and delightful experience, every single time I use them.

This shower gel comes in a dark green spray bottle. At first glance, the gel is see-through. But when you apply it to your skin, it transforms into an amazing, white foam. I secretly use this as a shaving foam sometimes, because it kinda has the same structure.

Just like the other products in the Jing collection, the shower gel too has a nice, subtle scent. You’ll smell the scent on your skin all day long. Personally, I like that. I feel clean and, for some reason, very posh.

Ritual of Jing – Mild Body Scrub

This body scrub has a beautiful, mint green color. It looks like a soft, fluffy cream. When you apply it, you’ll feel a very soft and fine grain structure. That’s probably why it’s called ‘mild scrub’ because Rituals does have a collection of sugar scrubs with a rougher structure.

I really enjoy the mild scrub and I love the color and smell! This is also very suitable for people with sensitive skin who can’t withstand a sugar scrub.

Ritual of Jing – Scented candle

You’ll always make me happy with a scented candle, it doesn’t matter if it’s summer or winter. This scented candle comes in a dark green/brown glass jar and doesn’t have a very present smell.

The quote “Quiet the mind and the soul will speak – Ma Jaya Sati Baghavati” is printed on the jar in a ton-sur-ton color.

I honestly have to admit that even ten minutes after lighting the candle I don’t really smell the scent. I like this candle as an addition to the gift box, but I wouldn’t buy it separately.

Final words

Personally, I like this collection very much. I have to say it reminds me of the Ritual of Dao collection, but I loved that collection as well. The scent is very ‘green’ and subtle, which I like. Are you someone who enjoys very sweet or intense perfumes? In that case, this collection might not be the right fit for you. Try the Sakura or Ayurveda collection!

I really wanted to try the Pillow is and the Sleep serum, but unfortunately they were sold out when I bought these items.
